Addtional Testing Services

The following additional testing services are offered to supplement your routine maintenance program.  As these services are generally very equipment and/or facility specific, please contact our offices to arrange a site inspection for a complete proposal on the items listed below.

Meghometer Testing

Insulations Resistance tests, sometimes referred to as "Megger" testing, is the process by which a short duration (typically >60 seconds) voltage is induced on cabling or alternator windings for the purpose of finding and diagnosing insulation failure resulting in a voltage leakage, either phase-to-phase (in a 3 phase system) or phase-to-ground.

In emergency generator A/C alternator ends, this service is provided utilizing the megger to induce voltage within the following sections of the alternator:

  • Main Stator

  • Rotor

  • Exciter Stator

  • Exciter Rotor

Special care must be taken to isolate all voltage sensitive or accessory equipment is isolated from the windings during the testing procedure.  Once done, our routine tests are (unless otherwise requested) typically performed through the output breaker on the generator to expedite the process.

However, if unsatisfactory results are achieved, isolating the alternator leads and performing the tests directly to the leads provides a more accurate reading and eliminates the possibility of a faulty breaker skewing or providing false results.
